Here are some important details regarding who will be going to the finals meet @ Springview next Wednesday October 9th including what exact races will take place and who should continue training and compete in the meet.
There has been much work analyzing all the runner's performance over the last 6 regular season races and capturing times and places ( Thank you to Heather Botnen ). That being said, human errors are possible so if anyone sees something that does not look correct or if you just have a question please feel free to reach out to me directly. Cooley XC has 50 athletes and not everyone has qualified to run in the 'finals' races. For those who do not qualify, I want them to be very proud of their accomplishments and they are encouraged and very welcome to continue training with the team and attend the finals.Finals Races:For the finals races, there are 4 races: 7th Girls, 7th Boys, 8th Girls and 8th Boys. Just as in the regular season, 6th graders compete as 7th graders. This makes it hard for 6th graders to qualify for finals and in the event they do not ... they will be 7th graders soon enough :) Qualifying for finals rules are as follows:* Each runner must have a personal best of 13:00 or faster* Each team may have up to 7 runners. If a team has less than 7, these may compete but require at least 5 runners to compete at the team level.* Each runner must have competed in at least 3 regular season meets* Race order is the same as the regular season (7thG,7thB,8thG,8thB)Alternate / Consolation Races:For athletes who do not qualify for the main finals races, the FISAL league hosts two additional races to allow more runners to have the chance to race. These two additional races take place directly after the last finals boys 8th grade race. There are only two races, one for boys and one for girls. Each race includes 6th,7th and 8th graders for that gender. Qualifying rules are as follows:* Each runner must have a personal best of 14:00 or faster* Each team may run a total of 6 athletes* Preference should be to split a team's runners into 3 8th graders and 3 6th/7th graders if possible to fill the 6 slots.Standby Athletes:We have listed a set of 'standby' athletes who in the event we have a 'finals' or 'consolation' athlete unable to compete, the 'standby' is able to run. Standby athletes should train, suit up and be ready to race. In past years we have had to draw on these quite often. The List:Important! If for whatever reason an athlete who has qualified for the finals or consolation cannot compete we really would like to know since this gives the opportunity for the standby athletes to run. In particular, keep in mind that the consolation races happen after the last finals run so be prepared to stay longer than regular season meets.
